‘Model’ worker Harry’s great attitude shines through

Like many young people, Harry was finding the transition to life in the workforce difficult.

But with the help of CVGT Australia and a supportive employer, he’s got his career on track thanks to employment with KFC.

“He’s wonderful,” his assistant manager Isla says. “Harry is eager to learn and has a great attitude.”

CVGT Australia first met Harry when he was referred to our YConnect program from his school.

He was connected with youth employment mentor Antonella.

“Harry had to move house around this time and his level of maturity was very evident,” Antonella says.

“He wanted to work and he found the job himself only less than a month from our first meeting.”

To help Harry stay in employment, he and Antonella had regular meetings and were in touch over the phone to check on his progress.

He also kept a journal, took part in mock interviews and drafted a cover letter, helping him to build the skills and confidence he needs to advance his career.

“Knowing him has been an absolute pleasure, he is courteous, kind and definitely has a can-do attitude,” Antonella says.

“Being a YConnect mentor for CVGT and working with people like Harry is an amazing experience and one which continues to grow.”

YConnect is open to people aged 15-24 in metropolitan Melbourne and the Bendigo region.

It’s a free program designed to help young people take their first steps into the workforce with the right support around them.

They will get support to build their confidence and skills while also getting help to address any barriers they may face.
