Ricky puts his hands on skills to use with agricultural equipment supplier

Ricky, a single dad with four children first met employment consultant Michelle at CVGT Employment Ararat after he had been unemployed for some time. Initially he was hoping to start a landscaping business,

I talked to my consultant about what kind of work I could and couldn’t do and what worked well with the skills I already had.

After speaking with Ricky, when a job came up at Gason Group, who build farm Machinery and the Jindarra Wood Heaters, Michelle knew it would be perfect for him. Ricky applied for the role at Gason’s and was successful and has been loving it ever since, getting support from CVGT before and after he started in the job.

Michelle has helped me learn how to report correctly, has provided me with the PPE and Clothing that I need.  She has also given me the encouragement needed to keep going even when things have got hard.

Since starting work, Ricky took on all the tasks they asked of him and more.  He would do all the overtime they offered him and was never late.  Within a few weeks of starting as a casual Gason’s had offered him full time work.

This type of work is right with in my wheelhouse as I have very good welding skills and have the ability to learn the other skills needed. I Love all of it.

Ricky was recently hospitalised and was impressed that everyone, including the business owner checked in on him and asked if there was anything they could do for him. According to his employment consultant Michelle:

Ricky kept telling me that he couldn’t believe how good it was and that even when he was home he wanted to be at work!

Ricky offered the following advice for other job seekers receiving support from CVGT Employment:

Work with your consultant.  They really just want the best for you and often see things that you don’t.
