Jess in control with traffic role secured
It has taken patience, belief and some crucial support, but Jess has secured her dream job.
Her story highlights how important persistence, tenacity and a willingness to ask for help are all important attributes for anyone embarking on their career journey.
I had to be very patient and believe in myself, with the support of CVGT Employment and my family.

Remaining steadfast
For a long time, Jess, 27, had identified traffic management as the employment path she wanted to take, and was completing her training while managing a learning disability.
“Despite receiving some discouraging feedback, she remained steadfast in her goal to find an employer who could appreciate her potential,” CVGT Employment Regional Manager Ange Francey says.
“Her perseverance paid off when she connected with Advanced Traffic Management (ADTM), whose staff provided exceptional support from the outset.”
Jess tackled the onboarding process with remarkable tenacity, completing numerous online modules required for the role. However, when she struggled to secure shifts, she turned to CVGT Employment for assistance.

Turning point
This decision to seek support proved to be a turning point, with the CVGT Employment team at Frankston ensuring Jess completed her onboarding while part of the Disability Employment Services program – soon to be renamed Inclusive Employment Australia.
CVGT Employment negotiated a wage subsidy with ADTM to give her extra time to learn her new role, while also funding her First Aid and CPR training – a requirement for her role.
“A highlight of Jess’s journey was the ‘bell of success’ tradition at CVGT,” Ange says.
“When she received her first shift, she rang the bell with a huge smile, celebrating her achievement with our enthusiastic staff.
“Jess continues to ring the bell with each increase in her shifts, marking her progress and growing confidence.”
“Her story is a testament to the power of determination and the importance of supportive networks. Her success in traffic management is a beacon of hope for others facing similar challenges.”
Supportive colleagues
For Jess, the most enjoyable parts of her role, where she is now working around 40 hours a week, are working alongside a range of colleagues and visiting different parts of the region.
“I believe the Advanced Traffic Management company and staff members have been very supportive of my needs,” Jess says.
And her advice to other people with a disability?
Don’t give up on your dream job or career, and try and keep positive.
