Helping people with an injury, illness or disability find and keep a job.

Disability Employment Services (DES) is an Australian Government Initiative that helps people with a disability, injury or health condition find and keep a job. Our goal is to find employment solutions that work for our participants, their needs, skills, experience and interests.

As a DES provider we help employers find staff for their business by referring potential employees, helping the new employee settling into the job, work place modifications (if needed) and providing wage subsidies for employing an eligible participant.

DES provides eligible participants with access to tailored help based on their assessed needs. This could include help looking for work, writing a résumé, preparing for interviews, referrals to jobs, training and help to settle into a job including workplace modifications (if needed).

About the DES program

Disability Employment Services (DES) is an Australian Government program that helps people with disability, injury or health condition (including anxiety and depression) find and keep a job.

CVGT were successful in its grant application bid and commencing July 1, 2019 expanded the DES service from seven employment services areas across Victoria to 18 across Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania.

The current program commenced July 2018 and will run until mid-2023. Under the new program framework, DES participants now have greater choice and control about the services they receive and how they receive them.

Through DES, participants may be able to receive assistance to prepare for, find and keep a job through one of two streams:

  1. Employment Support Service – A service for job seekers with permanent disability who have an assessed need for long term, ongoing support in the workplace.
  2. Disability Management Service – A service for job seekers with disability, injury or health condition who require the assistance of a DES, but are not expected to need long-term support in the workplace.

➥ Are you looking for work?

As a Disability Employment Services (DES) provider, we will work with you to develop an individually tailored program to strengthen employment outcomes for you. Together, we will increase your work-readiness skills, build on your strengths and interests and link you with potential employers.

There are three ways job seekers can access this service:

  1. Referral from Centrelink – Centrelink will assess your current capacity for work to ensure you receive the most appropriate assistance.
  2. Contacting CVGT Australia direct – You may need to undergo an assessment to determine your eligibility.
  3. Transfer – To transfer to CVGT Australia, call the National Customer Service Line on 1800 805 260 or email nationalcustomerserviceline@employment.gov.au and ask to transfer to CVGT.

We fell in love with Chris at the first meeting. We knew he would be a really good match. We were able to tailor his tasks to the things that he was capable and happy to do. Kelly made this so much easier for us from his inductions. She helped Chris with first aid, CPR, and the working with children’s check.
