Post Placement Support (PPS) is a term commonly used in employment services, but it’s not always well understood. In simple terms, Post Placement Support is the support provided after someone starts a job, to help both the employee and employer settle into the employment relationship and build long-term success.

At CVGT Employment, Post Placement Support focuses on helping people stay in work, address challenges early and create sustainable employment outcomes.

Post Placement Support can also apply to someone who is studying or undertaking training, by providing guidance and encouragement to help them balance learning commitments and successfully transition toward employment.

Below, we answer the most frequently asked questions about Post Placement Support, based on whether you are starting a job, undertaking study or employing someone through CVGT Employment.

Post Placement Support: Frequently Asked Questions for Participants

Post Placement Support is the support you receive after you start a job. It is designed to help you settle into work, build confidence and stay employed long term.

At CVGT Employment, Post Placement Support focuses on helping you succeed beyond your first day. It recognises that the early months and probationary period of employment are a key adjustment period.

In most programs, Post Placement Support is provided for up to six months after you start work.

If you are registered with Inclusive Employment Australia and need extra help to maintain your job due to disability, injury or health conditions, you may be eligible for Ongoing Support beyond the initial six months. This allows support to continue for as long as it is reasonably needed.

Support is tailored to you and your job. It may include:

  • Regular check-ins with your CVGT Employment Support Consultant, often fortnightly and arranged to fit around your work hours and individual support needs.
  • Help with routines, communication or confidence as you settle in, such as:
    • Clarifying job tasks or instructions so you know what is expected each shift.
    • Support with travel to and from work, including planning routes or transport options.
    • Building confidence to ask questions, clarify feedback and form relationships.
  • Practical assistance with work-related requirements and administration, including:
    • Help to read and understand your payslips
    • Support to declare your income correctly to Services Australia
    • Guidance if your pay, hours or employment details change
  • Access to financial support where appropriate, to help remove barriers to staying in work. This may include support with:
    • Work-related licences or tickets
    • Uniforms, PPE or essential equipment
    • Short training or courses linked to your role

Post Placement Support is tailored to your job and your needs to become more confident and settled in your role.

Regular check-ins are not about monitoring you. They are about:

  • Making sure you are settling into the role
  • Identifying issues early
  • Providing support before small challenges become bigger problems

This approach helps improve job stability and reduces the risk of employment ending unexpectedly.

We ask for payslips as part of providing support and, in some cases, helps your employer access wage subsidies.

Payslips are requested to:

  • Confirm your employment details, including your hours and start date
  • Check that your wages are being paid correctly and align with your role
  • Support employer wage subsidy claims, where a subsidy applies
  • Meet Australian Government reporting requirements including helping you to report your income correctly to Services Australia

If you’re unsure about your payslip, your CVGT Employment Support Consultant can help explain it and talk through what the information means. Collecting payslips does not affect your pay, and the information is used only to support your employment and ensure the right support continues to be available.

Yes. In some situations, financial support can help cover essential costs that support you to start work or stay employed.

Your CVGT Employment Support Consultant can talk with you about whether support is available and what you may be eligible for. The focus is always on removing practical barriers that could affect your ongoing employment.

Financial support may include help with:

  • Licences or tickets required for your role, such as White Card, forklift licence, Working with Children Check or industry specific certifications
  • Uniforms and safety equipment, including work clothing, boots or personal protective equipment that you need for your job
  • Short training or courses that directly support your role, help you meet workplace requirements or build skills needed to continue working
  • Other practical work-related items, where a cost may create a barrier to remaining in employment

Access to financial support is assessed on an individual basis. Your CVGT Employment Support Consultant will work with you to understand what you need, explain what support may be available, and help organise approved items where possible.

Post Placement Support exists for this reason.

If your hours, tasks or circumstances change, or if you are unsure how to raise something at work, your CVGT Employment Support Consultant can help you talk it through and identify next steps. This might include preparing for a conversation with your employer, working through possible solutions or accessing additional support if needed.

Early conversations often prevent issues from escalating and can help you feel more confident, supported and settled in your role.

Yes. In some situations, Post Placement Support can also be provided while you are studying, even if you are not currently working.

This type of support focuses on helping you complete your course or training, particularly where study is part of your pathway into employment. Your CVGT Employment Support Consultant can support you to stay engaged with your study and work through challenges that may affect your ability to finish.

Support may include:

  • Regular check ins to help you stay on track with your course
  • Support to understand study schedules, attendance requirements or assessments
  • Help to manage changes or challenges that may impact your participation
  • Practical guidance to keep you progressing toward employment once your study is complete
  • Financial support to purchase training material such as books and a laptop

This support recognises that completing training or study is often a key step toward sustainable employment, and that the right support at the right time can make a real difference.
