Spotlight on Indigi-print for Indigenous Business Month

Why is it important is it to support Indigenous businesses?

Too often buyers fall into the trap of finding the easiest suppliers, generally with ones that have significant financial and social capital to begin with. But, increasingly there are more suppliers out there who are small, family run businesses that are trying something innovative, creating change for their families and communities, whilst still competing in a marketplace that has traditionally excluded them. Indigenous business, much like other social enterprises are so much more than just a business. Yes, many operate for profit like any other business, but the impacts are more profound. It’s likely that these business owners are the first in family to own a business, the first time their family have been able to generate their own income from their own business as well as contribute back to community. Indigenous businesses are more likely to employ other Indigenous people, or others from marginalised backgrounds, and I’d like to think we have a more personable way of working. Our communities thrive on interpersonal relationships, so why shouldn’t our business thrive on relationships too, particularly if we have a shared purpose in making life better for everyone.

How does Indigi-Print support Indigenous communities and families?

Firstly, Indigi-Print is a family business who works with family businesses. We rarely use a large, corporate entity if we don’t have to, so for us supporting family is what it’s all about. We’ve also noticed that more recently, more people in our family have wanted to join in on our work. They’ve seen the aspiration and the achievement and want to be part of our growth. Secondly, regarding Indigenous communities, there’s plenty of ways in which we’ve supported over the years. From scholarships at universities for Indigenous graphic design students, an ongoing partnership with Surfing Victoria supporting their Indigenous programs, and on ad hoc occasions, we’ve pitched in to support mob in need when times are tough. We’re not alone in our support for communities but we like to play a small part of a bigger ambition.

Indigi-Print proudly sponsors Surfing Victoria’s Indigenous Programs, providing merchandise and trophies to the National Indigenous Surfing Titles, and the Woorrangalook Victorian Koori Surfing Titles.

How have you found your relationship with CVGT Employment?

We were initially approached by CVGT in March 2025 about some Promotional items.  Anytime a business actively seeks us out it is appreciated.  It is often a sign that the client is like minded in wanting to expand their supplier network and engage with businesses that fall into the Social Procurement framework.
From an operational perspective the relationship with CVGT has been great. From that initial Merchandise order we have since worked on a number or orders including Posters, Booklets, Flyers and other Collateral.  The relationship with CVGT is one we value and that contributes to Indigi-Prints continued growth.

CVGT Employment look forward to continuing to support Indigi-print and recommend them for their highly efficient and professional service. Please consider supporting Indigenous suppliers and service providers by searching Supply Nation to find services and suppliers for you or your business.
