Ed rocks the kitchen at famous Melbourne pub

The Hotel Esplanade in St Kilda is one of Melbourne’s best-known pubs, playing host to some of the biggest names in Australian music and entertainment.

Right now, it’s also where Ed is making the most of a great new opportunity to build a career in hospitality.

Ed came to CVGT Australia a couple of years ago as part of our Disability Employment Services program.

He was supported to start work in the hospitality industry and develop his skills but, as was the case for so many people, COVID lockdowns made staying in stable employment tough.

But those skills are once again being put to use, and developed, with the hospitality sector reopening.

Ed has secured a position doing food preparation in the kitchen at the Espy, and has enjoyed becoming part of the team.

“I am loving working at the Espy,” he says.

“I will never have any problems at the Espy because it’s a great place to work.”

The hotel is run by the Sand Hill Road Group and Ed’s manager is Ash, who says the Espy is benefiting from having Ed on board.

“Honestly he’s unreal,” Ash says. “He’s so good for the team.”

To secure the role, Ed received support from CVGT Australia’s Melbourne team.

“On the way home from the interview after being told he was successful in getting the job, Edward excitedly sent texts to what seemed like every friend and family member in his list of contacts on his phone to them he now has a job,” CVGT Australia consultant Candice says.

“Seeing the joy employment can bring to our participants and the people closest to them makes all the work worthwhile.”

Congratulations to Ed and the Espy, who are making some tasty memories in an iconic Melbourne venue.
