Trade up for a great career

Making decisions about what you want to do with your life when you’re finishing school can be super stressful.

Some people seem to have it figured out, with a burning ambition and a clear plan to make it happen.

For lots more people, deciding where to start a career can seem impossible, but we have some great advice that might help.

At CVGT Employment, we’re all about getting more people into meaningful work.

And we know from experience that learning a trade or doing a traineeship can help you get there.

How do I find my path?

Work means lots of different things to different people.

Some pursue a particular job because it’s their vocation – they are passionate about what they do and will make sacrifices for their career.

Others will go with the flow, chopping and changing jobs to suit their needs.

Meaningful work is a job that you enjoy and gives you purpose – something that gets you out of bed, pays the bills and helps you meet great people.

An apprenticeship or traineeship can be the perfect way to find a meaningful career that works for you.

And the best bit is that we make it easy.

What’s the difference between apprenticeships and traineeships?

What is an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships allow you to learn while you earn. You train on the job, study and earn an income all while working towards becoming a qualified tradesperson.

How long does an apprenticeship take?
An apprenticeship normally takes three to four years in traditional trade areas such as carpentry, electrical, hairdressing and plumbing.

What is a traineeship?

Traineeships are similar to apprenticeships, but they concentrate on vocational or job areas such as office administration, information technology or hospitality.

How long does a traineeship take?
A traineeship lasts one to two years. You’ll learn, work and earn and when you successfully complete you will receive (at a minimum) a Certificate II qualification.

Why should I choose a trade or traineeship?

Qualifications are respected and will help you advance your career.

It’s why so many people go to university to study – that education and prestige can take you a long way.

An apprenticeship or traineeship also offers education and prestige, with fantastic benefits.

  • Your training will be nationally recognised, meaning you can travel and take your accredited skills with you.
  • You can earn while you learn, with a mix of classroom education and on-the-job training.
  • Your skills will be in high demand, with qualified tradespeople sought after around the country.
  • With hard work and dedication, your skills will allow you to make a good wage.
  • After qualifying, you could have the ability to be your own boss, set your own hours and make your job work for you.
  • Apprenticeships and traineeships are highly regulated, so you know you’ll be looked after.

So how do I start?
