Opening doors in Shepparton – Furphy Engineering welcomes future trade talent
In a region known for its strong manufacturing roots, Shepparton’s own Furphy Engineering recently opened its doors to a group of eager Workforce Australia and Transition to Work Participants for a behind-the-scenes walkthrough. Organised by David Furci, Shepparton Senior Business Development Consultant at CVGT Employment, the event offered Participants a rare glimpse into one of the town’s largest manufacturing businesses.
Furphy Engineering, a family owned and operated business, has adapted for over 150 years to become a leader in stainless steel fabrication. From stainless steel storage tanks, processing tanks and pressure vessels Furphy Engineering supply multi-national and domestic businesses across the food, dairy, brewing, manufacturing, oil and gas industries. It was the engineering division that took centre stage during the walkthrough, showcasing the craftsmanship and scale of operations that make Furphy Engineering a standout employer in the region.
A hands-on opportunity
The walkthrough was designed to introduce Participants to a real-world working environment and highlight the entry level roles currently on offer. With four Trade Assistant positions available, attendees were given a firsthand look at the kind of work they’d be doing.
“Trade Assistants work on some of the products manufactured at Furphy Engineering, including vessel silos,” says David.
“While the role is entry-level, the potential for growth is significant. Employees have the chance to upskill, explore different areas of the business, and even pursue a metal fabrication apprenticeship if they’re keen to take their career further.”

Strong turnout, strong outcomes
Out of the eleven Participants invited, seven attended the walkthrough, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees appreciated the opportunity to see the workplace in action, meet staff, and ask questions about the role and career pathways available.
“It was great for our Participants to see the scale of the operation and understand what a day on the job would actually look like,” said David. “It’s not just about getting a job. It’s about building a future.”
That future is already taking shape. Since the walkthrough, four Participants have successfully commenced employment with Furphy Engineering, stepping into their new roles as Trade Assistants with enthusiasm and a clear sense of purpose.
We’re proud to share that two Participants have since been offered apprenticeships.
I appreciate CVGT Employment helping me so much. I would not have gotten the job without all your help!
