Explore your strengths

Think about what you enjoy and what you’re good at. Whether it’s working with people, solving problems, or being hands-on. This can help guide your career or study choices.

Update your resume

Your resume is your personal highlight reel.  Even if you haven’t had a formal job yet, you’ve got valuable experiences worth showcasing.

Here’s what you can include to make your resume stand out:

Think about awards, leadership roles, or projects you were proud of. Did you:

  • Lead a group assignment?
  • Win a subject award?
  • Organise a school event? These show initiative, responsibility and teamwork. All qualities employers and educators value.

Volunteering shows you’re proactive and community minded. Whether you helped at a

  • local fundraiser
  • coached a junior sports team
  • supported a school club

It’s worth including.

Even short term or informal jobs count. Babysitting, mowing lawns, helping at a family business. These all show reliability and work ethic.

So how does it work?

When you first contact us, you will be supported and encouraged as we help you to search for work or explore further education. We provide a range of employment programs, making us unique in our industry. Our staff are experienced in delivering services to job seekers and we can even combine programs to find the best solution for you.

With CVGT Employments support, you can look forward to a smooth transition from school to work, apprenticeships or traineeships, job to job or returning to the workplace with confidence.

What will you look at first?

The first thing to work on together is determining which of our employment programs is the best fit for you. The road to work will then generally start with an interview with one of our consultants.

What happens in the interview?

You’ll be provided with a list of important documents to bring along to your interview. At the interview we will get to know you and to understand your current skills, goals and individual circumstances.

During this initial interview you will also develop a job plan, which sets out what we need to do together to get you into work or further study. It basically lists the services and training you require to meet your goals. Your plan will help you search for jobs, get work experience, gain new skills and qualifications and overcome your barriers to employment.

Some of the ways we do this is by helping you prepare or update your application letter and resume, prepare for job interviews, overcome barriers to employment, match you with a job that will suit your strengths and if needed, access workplace modifications.
