About 2022 Move for Mental Health

Coinciding with Mental Health Awareness Month and World Mental Health Day, 2022 Move for Mental Health is a virtual fitness and fundraising challenge for all abilities.

This year, thanks to participants like Zoe and generous community donations $66,329 was raised to purchase a move for mental health multipurpose bus, so more health patients throughout the region can access specialised exercise programs.

“Coming from a small town, this news is amazing,” said Zoe.

The importance of mental health support

Zoe, like many others, knows all too well the impact of the day-to-day strain has on our mental health.

“It’s sad to think that there are many people out there similar to myself that may not have the support that they need,” Zoe says. “And in turn they are misunderstood.”

Mental health is an important part of your well- being. It can affect how you cope emotionally, physically, and socially.

The biggest thing I have taken from this, is in those times I struggle, and feel overwhelmed – everything is piling up, the cleaning, the day-to-day functions, the dread of waking up and just wanting to curl up under the covers and feel nothing.  I have support around me.

Zoe about participating in Move for Mental Health

Strong support networks are so important

Having a strong support system is vital to maintaining positive mental health. That includes a supportive workplace.

I am so thankful that all the CVGT departments I have worked with. They have been understanding with my own struggles with mental health, and have always worked with me, to achieve my best.

Finding the will to exercise

Exercise strengthens mental health. There are a range of benefits including improved mood, energy and self-esteem that comes from getting moving.

However, when you are feeling low, taking those first steps can be hard. It’s mind over matter, and matter over mind.

Zoe, during her training, leaned on her favourite yoga quote for motivation.

The you think you are, cannot overcome the challenge! It’s who you are that does and will.
