Katie gets her chance to shine

Katie’s goals and ambitions were clear when she connected with CVGT Employment ParentsNext program.

With a qualification behind her but no experience in the workplace to show for it, she just wanted to get an opportunity to show what she could do as an integration aide.

Up stepped CVGT Employment Transition Support Coach Skye, giving Katie the support and guidance she needed to get her big break.

“Katie was looking for part time employment, but the one interview she’d done for a position was unsuccessful because of her lack of experience,” Skye says.

“So to get her in a better position to secure a job, we guided her through the process of writing a cover letter, addressing key selection criteria and building her resume.

“We also accessed the Participation Fund to help her complete a Working With Children Check (WWCC) and NDIS screening, while also supplying clothing and shoes for work.”

With steady employment soon secured, Katie is full of praise for Skye’s efforts.

Without Skye from Wallan CVGT Employment, I would not have been able to fund a Working With Children Check, NDIS and purchase suitable work clothing.

Skye was very supportive, and I felt empowered to keep trying, even when I was not successful after attending various job interviews.

I also learnt how work affects my parenting payment, and now have clarity and understanding. I am in a much better financial position now that I am working part-time.
