Savannah’s driving forward

Savannah connected with CVGT Employment Parent Pathways in Bacchus Marsh, with a clear goal in mind, to get her full driver’s licence. As a young mum juggling study and parenting, she knew that having her own transport would make a world of difference.

I had no licence. I was taking my baby on public transport, where we’d be stuck in horrible weather, and I had to rely on others to take my daughter to appointments.

At her first Parent Pathways appointment, Savannah shared that she was ‘working towards her licence’. But by the time her next appointment came around, she was feeling overwhelmed.

“She had already booked in her driving test, which you must do in advance. But she wasn’t sure she would pass and didn’t have the money to pay for lessons,” says Lissa, CVGT Employment Parent Pathways Mentor.

That same day, Lissa stepped in and booked driving lessons with a local driving school. The lessons were fully funded through Parent Pathways, giving Savannah the support she needed to move forward with confidence.

A milestone achieved

In August 2025, Savannah sat her driving test and passed!

“Savannah visited our office to say a big thank you because she’s been able to drive her and her baby around instead of taking public transport.”

For Savannah, this was more than convenience. It was also about safety, confidence, and reclaiming her independence as a young mum.

Driving towards a brighter future

Savannah had experienced anxiety using public transport, especially with her baby in tow. But now, she’s able to travel at her own pace and without the added stress.

“She’s currently studying a Bachelor of Youth Work and Criminal Justice, and having her licence has made it easier to get to her placement and pick up her baby. No more waiting around or trying to navigate bus timetables.”

When I connected to Lissa, within a month, she helped me smash out the hours needed to get my licence with a professional driving instructor. Without Lissa and the driving instructor, I wouldn’t have perfected my driving, be able to safely transport my baby, or get to my student placement! It has opened so many new opportunities for us!
