Finding a way back into the workforce for dedicated mum

For Stephanie, a single mum with seven kids, finding work that fits around school hours has always been a challenge. When she first joined CVGT Employment’s Workforce Australia program in Horsham, she didn’t have a drivers licence and lacked confidence.

After joining , Stephanie’s confidence grew week by week. With support from her employment consultant Cassie, she completed her food handlers course, a police check, received new interview clothes, glasses, and a wealth of encouragement to build her confidence.

“I let Stephanie know how much I believed in her and her abilities. I made sure Stephanie knew that I was there for her and available to assist her in any way I could, whether it was needing something to help her with employment or someone to listen when she felt overwhelmed.”

Workforce training and support

Recognising that Stephanie would benefit from additional training and support, Cassie selected her to participate in the Fast Track program, an intensive program with weekly 1.5 hour appointments and set tasks over a four- week period, followed by tailored weekly support. According to Stephanie, this program was a great experience.

I feel the Fast Track program helped me get the confidence I needed to go out and look for work.  Shopping for clothes gave me confidence to be presented the right way. My employment consultant Cassie gave me confidence in myself by choosing me for this program and encouraged me to believe in myself.

Reverse marketing and workplace support

Having overcome her lack of confidence through the Fast Track program, Stephanie was reverse marketed to employers by business development consultant Paul, which helped give her an edge, and helped overcome her previous lack of recent work experience.

A vacancy came up with a cleaning company, and even though Stephanie had not done this before she jumped at the chance to be put forward, resulting in a successful trial and ongoing work. After commencing work, Stephanie has received ongoing support to make sure she has all she needs to succeed in her role.

“We have regular appointments to see how I’m going. Cassie has always been there when I have had any issues and has given advice or helped the situation. This is not always in appointments, as I have made contact out of the blue and Cassie has always responded quickly.”

Her employment consultant Cassie is proud of Stephanie and the work she has put in to achieve her goals and support her family.

Stephanie has shown great resilience, strength and the willingness to take on anything to get her where she wants to be. I think this is incredibly inspiring for anyone with very little work experience. Stephanie’s journey show’s if you’re willing to give it everything you will get results.
