Celebrating Culture and Connection: CVGT Burnie Joins NAIDOC Week in Smithton
SMITHTON, TASMANIA – CVGT Employment Burnie staff members Nick and Tiarna were honoured to participate in this year’s NAIDOC Week celebrations in Smithton, joining the Circular Head community in a day filled with culture, learning, and connection.
Hosted by the Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation, the event welcomed local organisations, Elders, and families to reflect on and celebrate the history, achievements, and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s NAIDOC theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” marks 50 years of NAIDOC and honours the enduring contributions of First Nations peoples while looking ahead to a future shaped by resilience and leadership.

As part of the festivities, Nick and Tiarna took part in a traditional smoking ceremony – a powerful moment of cleansing and welcome – and engaged deeply with the rich exhibits on display.
The CVGT team were especially moved by their conversations with representatives from Brumby Hill, gaining insights into local initiatives and cultural stories that continue to shape the region. The day also offered hands-on experiences, with Nick and Tiarna eagerly joining in rhythmic drumming workshops and crafting their own jewellery with guidance from local artists—sharing laughs, stories, and an appreciation for creative expression.

CVGT’s involvement in the celebration is a reflection of its growing partnership with the Circular Head Aboriginal community. Operating out of the Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation Centre for local appointments, CVGT Burnie remains committed to offering inclusive employment services tailored to the needs of the region.
It’s about listening, showing up, and walking alongside community. Today was a beautiful reminder of that.
