At just 20 years old, CVGT Employment Workforce Australia participant Saul, is proving that age is no barrier to achieving meaningful employment. After facing a range of personal challenges, he has reached a milestone that once felt out of reach by securing paid work and building a strong foundation for the future.

Facing challenges head-on

When Saul first connected with CVGT Employment in Albury, there was an open and candid conversation between himself and his CVGT Employment Consultant Dakota about the barriers Saul was experiencing, including limited employment history, no driver’s licence, reliance on public transport, and mental health challenges. Together, a clear and realistic plan was developed to move forward.

“From our very first conversation, it was clear this was about more than just finding a job. It was about building confidence, trust and a pathway that felt achievable,” says Dakota.

Building confidence and momentum

Dakota’s, guidance, encouragement and practical assistance made a meaningful difference. With consistent support, Saul was able to work through challenges step by step and begin building confidence.

The focus remained on creating steady progress while identifying suitable job opportunities and addressing transport barriers that had previously made work feel out of reach. Over time, tailored strategies were developed to support both employment goals and mental wellbeing, allowing each success to build momentum toward the next.

That momentum led to a significant breakthrough as Saul secured paid employment as a labourer at Hutchinson and Civil. This achievement represents not only entering the workforce but also a renewed sense of independence and belief in what is possible.

As Saul shared during his journey,

I don’t want to lose the momentum that I have going.

Independence beyond employment

Saul’s success extends beyond the workplace. Since starting his new job and obtaining his provisional licence, he has also purchased his own car, something he once believed was out of reach. This milestone marks a major step toward long term independence and increased confidence in managing daily life.

“Seeing Saul achieve his licence, gain employment and purchase a car has been incredibly rewarding. These milestones show how far he has come and the strong future he is building,” says Dakota.
