Building skills, building stability
When Rebecca Hodge, a single mother from Albury, found herself getting only ten hours of work a week as a room attendant, she knew something had to change. She joined CVGT Employment’s Workforce Australia program for support to boost her hours and create a more secure future.
Exploring opportunities to grow
At her first appointment, Rebecca met with CVGT Employment Consultant Anu Pal. Together, they looked at her current workplace and discussed areas where she could take on more responsibility. Anu suggested that by learning new skills, Rebecca could open the door to extra shifts and increase her weekly hours.
Anu suggested Rebecca complete training so she could work in the restaurant and bar areas. The goal was to reach at least 15 hours a week. Rebecca agreed and enrolled in Letizia’s Training & Development, Food Handling and Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) courses. These qualifications gave her the skills to take on extra shifts. Rebecca hours soon increased to 17 per week.
Extra support for future success
“Rebecca’s role required her to access workplace systems and complete tasks online. Her old phone didn’t have enough storage or features to handle these requirements, making it difficult to stay connected and manage her work. To remove this barrier, CVGT Employment provided a laptop- giving Rebecca the tools she needed to perform her job and continue her journey toward long-term, sustainable employment,” Anu says.
Rebecca has shown incredible resilience and determination. Moving into sustainable employment of more than 15 hours a week is a big achievement. It reflects her strong work ethic and is an inspiring example of balancing family responsibilities with career growth.
