Working It Out Invites you to IDAHOBIT 2023, and to see who wins The Dorothies award for Excellence in LGBTIQ+ Inclusion in Local Government.

International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT Day), is celebrated in more than 130 countries. The date of May 17th was specifically chosen to commemorate the World Health Organization’s decision in 1990 to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder.

The Day represents an annual landmark to draw attention to the alarming discrimination and prejudices still faced by some lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people and all those who do not conform to majority sexual and gender norms.

WIO’s Annual IDAHOBIT Breakfast and The Dorothies Awards Working It Out (WIO) is Tasmania’s dedicated LGBTIQ+ support and education service. We work towards creating a more just society for LGBTIQ+ Tasmanians.

Each year we hold a breakfast welcoming allies and leaders from organisations, services, and local and state governments across Tasmania to acknowledge this day and celebrate achievements through the awarding of The Dorothies for best practice in inclusive service provision.

Tickets include a full buffet breakfast, and the opportunity to hear from multiple guest speakers addressing our theme for 2023’s Dorothies Awards – recognising Excellence in LGBTIQ+ Inclusion in Local Government. You will also be the first to hear the announcement of 2024’s theme (TBC).
