Work for the Dole

What is Work for the Dole?

Work for the Dole is a work experience program funded by the Australian Government which aims to help job seekers improve their employment prospects by providing opportunities to develop skills to help them gain long term employment.

Participants engage in a range of programs in all industries including:

- Information Technology
- Media
- Tourism
- Education
- Landscaping
- Community Services / Health

- The Arts
- Recruitment Agencies
- Animal Welfare
- Science & Technology

...and more!

Participation in this program offers a variety of work placements, which can provide a wide range of relevant, workplace-based skill development opportunities. Participants view the experience as valuable, and employment outcomes are generally positive for participants who complete the program.

Who is Eligible?

If you are currently receiving New Start or Youth Allowance you may be eligible for these programs. Talk to a CVGT Work for the Dole consultant for more information.

How Does It Work?

Job seekers who meet the eligibility criteria are contacted by CVGT, with an invitation to participate. All you need to do is ring the contact number on your letter of invitation and speak to one of our Work for the Dole consultants, who will arrange for you to attend an information session about the opportunities available.

Your interests and skills will be matched with available programs, and arrangements made for you to commence on the program.

What is My Commitment?

Once you sign your "Activity Agreement", you will be required to attend the Work for the Dole program for 26 weeks (unless you gain employment during this period).

People under 21 years are required to participate for 12 hours per week; people over 21 years are required to participate for 15 hours per week.

Work and on-the-job training is supervised by sponsor organisations, with the support of CVGT’s Work for the Dole consultants.

If you are a long- term job seeker your Job Network member may refer you to Full Time Work for the Dole.

All Work for the Dole participants receive an extra $20.80 per fortnight.

Protective clothing is provided by the project sponsor if it is needed

Essential training, such as occupational health and safety training, is also provided.
