Guide to applying for a position within CVGT

1. Research the company

  • Find out as much information about CVGT as possible to ensure CVGT is a company you would want to work for. A good starting place would be CVGT website.
  • Understand the programs and services that CVGT provides to the community.
  • Read our annual report.

2. Research the position

  • If possible, talk to a current staff member.
  • Ensure that you have a clear understanding of the position you are applying for by reviewing the position description which you can download from the job category selection of this page.

The next three steps are required and it is important that you follow them to ensure a successful submission of your application.

3. Application letter

  • Cover letter - This is an introduction letter and should also clearly state which position you are applying for, example: Job #78 Employment Consultant (Echuca Based).

4. Resume

  • Attach an up to date resume.

5. Addressing the key selection criteria

  • In conjunction with the overall position description requirements you will need to address each key selection criteria separately. An example of this could be:

    3.1 - Sound understanding of computer systems and the ability to use word processing spreadsheet and database programs

    Give examples of your use of computer based systems and any qualification or courses you have completed eg. on my previous role I was required to use MS word, excel and photo shop on a daily basis. It was my role to produce weekly reports, etc.

    3.4 - Highly developed written and interpersonal communication skills including public speaking.

    Provide examples of how you communicate, this may be in your current job or in general day to day life, perhaps you are a member of an organization or club and this requires you to speak to groups etc.

    There are no hard and fast rules to the amount of information you can provide on each point in the selection criteria. Some people provide a page and others provide a few paragraphs, depending on your work/life experience you have had the position you are applying for. However, it is important to remember to keep the details relevant to the criteria and the overall skills and experience required for the position.
